2/13/1850

                      Dear Diary,

We finished building our raft for the Columbia River. We needed at least 200 feet of rope. We had it, so we were ready. We left two days ago. The water was rough. We almost rammed into the side of the river. Luckily, we had oars to steer.  As we were floating down the rapids today, something pretty bad happened. We ran into a whirlpool, and lost 100 pounds of food! It was unfortunate, but according to the book, we had enough food for the rest of the trip. We couldn't hunt, so we were stuck with the food we had. If the book was wrong, we will die a fourth time. It doesn't really matter. Other companies, also went into the rapids. One company went into the water. They lost some food, but they survived. Another two companies smashed into rocks and lost some food too. Some groups who went to the Cascade Mountains had to lower themselves down the steep trail. They had to have enough common sense, and they had to be strong enough to handle this. They had some broken parts, but they fixed it. Well, its getting late now, so I have to go set up my tent now. Goodnight!

2/21/1850

                           Dear Diary,

We smashed into rocks and ran into another whirlpool today. We lost 200 pounds of food. We still had enough food. As we were rushing down the rapids, I saw something I thought I would never see. I saw Willamette Valley! We made it! I have never been so happy in my life! Yes! I have reached my goal! Now I will live in peace forever! It was late when we got there, so we had to build a cabin fast and sleep. Well, it looks like they have finished the setup. I'm going to sleep.

2/21/1851

                           Dear Diary,

We survived the year, we have't died a fourth time. This is so awesome! I am having so much fun here. I have a lot of friends! This is a paradise! Well, this looks like an end to my journey to Oregon. I have accomplished almost everything I ever wanted to do. My life, is one not many people can ask for. Oregon is the best place in the world!

1/29/15

                              Dear Diary,

We were stuck in the Blue Mountains! We were snowed in. It was only for five days. We died again since we had no food. It didn't really matter. What was funny was that we died again on the way to Fort Walla Walla, since we didn't have enough food. We died three times already! Well, we reached Fort Walla Walla. It was the last fort we will be on till we reach Oregon. So, we used as much money as we could on food. We hunted three times and we were successful twice. Michelle rolled and she was unsuccessful. Nathan hunted and brought back 50 pounds of food. Shireen hunted and brought back 250 pounds of food. We had 1,374 pounds of food. It would last for the rest of the trip! Well, we will leave tomorrow since it is getting late. I'll be going to sleep now! Goodnight!

1/30/15

                              Dear Diary,

We started leaving today, and we had to make a decision. Either we go up the Cascade Mountains. or we go through the Columbia River. We decided to go through the Columbia River. We didn't care if we died again. We could only fit a thousand pounds in the raft we made out of our wagon. We killed our oxen, and threw away everything except 508 pounds of food, blacksmith tools, tents, water barrel, rope, and our cooking gear. We will leave first thing tomorrow! We are resting here now, and it's getting pretty late. I feel like this is getting a little fun now. Goodnight!

9/5/1849

                                            Dear Diary,

We left South Pass, and we entered in Oregon territory. We are still far away from our goal. We kept going until, we found the place where the book told us to take a shortcut. It said that the shortcut was beautiful, and there was plenty of grass and water. It would be 100 miles shorter than the other trail. The only thing was, that we had to skip Fort Bridger if we went that way. The book also said that the trail to Fort Bridger was dry and there were no animals. Our wagon company decided to go to Fort Bridger. We left, and it turns out, the book was wrong. The path was green, with many animals. There was fresh water and grass. Since there were many animals, Kate hunted. She brought back 300 pounds of food. We have a ton of food now! Some other wagon companies went through the so called short cut. It was dry, filled with poisonous lakes. It was the opposite of what the book said! They faced 3 challenges and they were able to handle them. The 3 challenges they had, were making the oxen stay on the path, stop the oxen from drinking the poisonous water, and finally, feeding their oxen. Well, we arrived at Fort Bridger. At the fort, a man who owned the fort asked us if we wanted to swap our oxen for oxen that are ready to go. He said that it will cost 5 dollars each animal we swap. I wanted to do it, but the rest of the group didn't want to. We decided not to swap our animals. We were all exhausted, and we felt like we would die of fatigue. So, we stopped here for the night. Well, I'm getting tired, so goodnight!

9/9/1849

                                          Dear Diary,

We arrived at Fort Hall today. At Fort Hall, the owners of the fort tell us that the journey to Oregon is treacherous. He says that we will freeze in the Cascade Mountains. There is a rocky path. He said that we should go to California. I think that the reason why he is telling us this, is because there is rich soil there and that they want to keep all that farmland to themselves. We didn't want to change our goal, so we told him we will face them and live through them. He was angry, so he tripled the price of everything we bought. We didn't want to buy anything anyway. We rested here for the night, so here I am. I'm going to bed now. Goodnight!

9/30/1849

                                          Dear Diary,

We left Fort Hall 21 days ago. We still have plenty of food. We entered the Blue Mountains. There were hazardous rivers, such as the Snake River. There were many cliffs and the path was very rocky. It was hard to steer. As we were walking, we heard something snap. When we looked, we saw that the wagon tongue had broken! We didn't have a spare one! Luckily, we had blacksmith tools. We only had to wait one day for it to be fixed. However, by the time it was finished, it was night. We had to rest for the day. Time to sleep! Goodnight!

11/3/1849

                                           Dear Diary,

Today, we starved for 26 days. Our wagon company died, one after another, in the Blue Mountains. Soon, I know my time will come. I will make it to Oregon! I died. Our whole wagon company died of starvation, in the Blue Mountains. We are now, The Ghost Cub's Wagon. I am now a ghost. If I can't make it to Oregon alive, I will get there as a ghost!

                                      Dear Diary,

It has been two whole months since I have last written in this journal. Crazy, right! Well, it is not as crazy as what happened today. So, we left fort Laramie and reached the Rocky Mountains. People always said that it was lush, and full of life. Well, at a distance, you might think of it like that. However, if you got closer, all of the grass and trees you saw, were actually just sage bushes. What makes it worse, is that there is sand and poisonous springs underneath them. You might have been scared like crazy. You might decide to reconsider and turn back. We, went through. At the base of the mountains, was a man taking these items from the side of the road. They must have been abandoned items from the previous pioneers. He wanted to sell all the stuff at fort Laramie. The man asked us if they wanted to lighten the load on their load on the wagon. He didn't want to trade anything for it. He said that they needed to lighten the load in order to make it to South Pass. We decided not to, because we already have little weight on our wagon. We moved on. We were very low on food, so we hunted. Nathan hunted and brought back 50 pounds of food. Not as much food, considering the fact that he is very good at hunting and fighting. Now, we only had 83 pounds of food left! Not enough to survive in the rocky mountains. We decided to rest because it was getting late. I'm getting tired to, so good night!

August 5, 1849

                                       Dear Diary,

Not much has happened yesterday and today. The only thing we did was hunt. Michelle hunted and brought two hundred pounds of food. We might have just enough for the next 20 days or so. Then, we moved on. We were all ready to go. It is getting really late now and I should be going to sleep. Good night!

August 21, 1849

                                     Dear Diary,

/  Today, was a special day. Today, people would see our names and know that we have been to at least to this point today, was the day that we were attacked by Native Americans. Today, we reached Independence Rock! We could finally, carve our names into the rock for future pioneers to see. As we carved our names into the rock, we saw something. We saw a big group of Native Americans charging at us. They were irritated that we were in their land. We all knew that we had only three decisions. Either we had to try and get out of there as soon as possible, fight them, or talk to them. We all decided to go up to them and talk. He then suggested that we turn the other way. We decided to negotiate with them. Shireen negotiates, and she was successful. The only thing was, that we had to give him something in order to leave. Either we had to give him a rifle, 5 boxes of bullets, or anything that was 40 pounds or more. We gave him a rifle. He let us go, and we left. Other companies did the same exact thing as we did. One wagon company gave him 5 boxes of bullets. Another wagon company, failed to negotiate with him, so they went back and waited 5 days until they could pass. After some time, we hunted. Kirsten hunted, and brought back 250 pounds of food. We all set up our tents and rested, Well, I'm going to bed too. Good night.

September 1, 1849

                                   Dear Diary,

This landmark we saw today, showed our wagon company that we were very close to California. We were at South Pass. I felt so excited that I could burst out crying without getting embarrassed! The sad thing was, that we had to stop before we got onto the pass. I can't wait until tomorrow! I will finally see a hill filled with lush grass. Nothing can stop us from reaching California! As usual, it is getting late. I will have to write again some other time. Good night!

                                  Dear Diary,

You know, about the decision our wagon company made two days ago? It turned out that it wasn't so bad after all. We only waited two days. Now, we can cross. We walked across the river and made it to the other side safely. I was happy. I knew we wouldn't end our journey here and drown. We would make it all the way to California. The other wagon companies who decided to wait, also waited only two days. The wagon companies that decided to float their wagons, made it across, but both companies had three people who weren't strong enough to cross the river. They lost some health. So we continued our journey. Now it is getting late. We are all getting ready for bed and I think I should be getting ready too. Well goodbye, for now.

June 27, 1849

                                    Dear Diary,

We have traveled 140 miles so far, and it took us 14 days. We are really tired. But then, something very unexpected happened. Clouds came in fast. It didn't look pretty. They were all black. It started raining in seconds. We were facing harsh wind. After that, hail came. Not just small chunks you would find falling at your home. Enormous chunks of hail, the size of baseballs flew straight at us. We decided to go under the wagon for safety. I felt a little scared. The storm passed and we moved on until we found fort Larmie. We rushed to get there. I felt happy that we were at a safe fort. Well, food was still double the price, so we hunted. Shireen hunted and she brought back 300 pounds of food back! It is getting late now. Well, once again I have to sleep so, good night!

                    Dear Diary,

It has been 24 days since I have written in this journal. It has been 41 days since we started our journey to California! Well, now we are going along the Platte River. The water is brown and its full of mud. We can't even drink that water. Well, to our luck we came along a fort. It was called Fort Kearny. Unluckily, the owner of the fort was very smart. He knew that this was the only fort for miles, so he doubled the price for anything we bought. We could sell things for half the price. Well, we were low on food so we bought 500 pounds of food. We have around 600 pounds of food now. Some wagon company sold 2 harmonicas for $.50 each! That is very cheap. We have only 280 dollars left. We had a lot to worry about. I am not so confident about reaching California anymore. It may be a lot harder than I thought.

June 22, 1849

                 Dear Diary,

I was right about what I said. Today, was one of the days someone in my wagon company would do something ludicrous. The person who did that was Kate. Well this is how our day went. So, as we edged nearer and nearer to the ford for Platte river, we saw someone shouting to us. We came up to him and asked him his name and why he was shouting. He said his name was Professor Theodore Farnsworth. He also told us that he had an elixir that could cure cholera and make headaches go away. Kate bought it and drank it and Michelle negotiated for a better price and then bought it. She didn't drink it. After 30 seconds, Kate became sick. I knew that this would do the exact opposite of what he said it would do. That is why I didn't drink it. Soon, we came to the ford. It was night so we rested there. Well it is about time I should go to sleep, but one more thing. For some reason, the river was running unusually high. So, we had 2 options to cross the river. One float our wagon across it. I wanted to do this, but sadly we didn't. The second option was to wait until the water goes down. We went with that. Well, looks like it is getting late. I should sleep now.

Hello everyone. I am sure you have tasted lot of candy, but I am sure you have never experienced the one I have just created called Milk Seekers. Milk Seekers look splendid, smell marvelous, and taste delicious.

Body

Looks Good
First of all, Milk Seekers look splendid. They are big and long bars.  It looks like it has a hard chocolate coating that is very thick. It is brown, very smooth and shiny. They look like they are work of art.

Smells Good
Also, Milk Seekers smell nice. It has a very strong scent. They smell like hot fudge. Someone can smell it when they are a foot away. If you smell it, you would want to eat it right away.

Taste Good
Finally, Milk Seekers taste really good. It is a sweet delight.  It has a chocolate coating that melts in your mouth not in your hand. Inside the coating is fudge. It tastes heavenly. It is irresistible. In fact it is very addicting. If anyone takes a small bite, they would devour the rest of the bar.

The Monkey Pizza

There was a city named Monkey City. In this city people ate monkeys. An orphaned monkey named Fin lived there in fear and filth. He lived in the sewer to escape from people. He met a rat who lived in the sewers. They shared their experiences and became close friends. Monkeys were scarce in the city. People were desperate for monkeys. They would pay high price for monkey meat. Hunters were looking for monkeys everywhere.

Fin and Rat loved pizza. Fin and rat came behind a pizza parlor one night and shared left over pizzas with rat in the dump. He was spotted on night by pizza owner. He chased Fin and Rat. They ran back to sewer but they couldn't get in. They ran to the nearest bus and jumped inside. The bus took off. Fin and Rat hid under a seat. The mayor of Monkey City was on the bus. When they were almost at the next bus stop, the bus was hijacked by a teenage boy. He had a gun and he started shooting floor yelling threats to kill the mayor if anyone moves. Rat jumped from under the seat and to under the boy's pants. He started shooting everywhere. He killed the driver. Fin started yelling that the driver was dead. Sadly, no one could understand him. Fin went to the drivers seat but he couldn't reach pedal. Rat jumped on to the pedal and drove safely. The mayor was shot during the hijack. Fin took his phone and called ambulance. They came and helped mayor. They didn't believe they were taking orders from a monkey and a rat.

When the mayor woke up, he couldn't believe that he was saved by a monkey. He asked Fin and Rat to come to his house. Fin and Rat came. He asked what they want for bravery. Fin and Rat said that they want a law that forbids everyone to eat monkeys. The mayor made the law and a small house for Fin and Rat. They lived their lives in Monkey City and ate pizzas from the dumpsters. This time no one chased them.

Letter for president

4/1/15 April Fool's Day

Dear President Barack Obama,

Hello! It is a very rare opportunity to write to you. My name is Akash, and I go to Carolyn A. Clark Elementary school. I am in 4th grade. The reason I am writing to you, is to gather funding to improve California.

First of all, people are littering everywhere. Some people get away with that. We can gather volunteers to help clean garbage. There will be less garbage in our environment.

Also, the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is increasing. Cars are release a lot of carbon dioxide. We need to put a stop to this. To do that, we should make kids walk to school at least once a week. Then, less carbon dioxide will be released into the air.

Finally, there is too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere already. We can plant trees. This will decrease the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.

All in all, these are some ways we can improve California. For all this, I need 10,000$. Please reply with cash or a check. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Akash

Process writing on how to make paper airplanes

Process writing on how to make paper airplanes

Have you ever wanted to know how to make a paper airplane? You're in luck! Here is a step by step guide on how to make a dart airplane made of paper. First, fold the paper in half and crease it. Then, unfold. This is to make sure that both sides are equal. After that, fold both top corners to the crease you made. This will start making the wings. Next, you repeat this step. This will make it's wings smaller, but it will make the plane go faster. Finally, fold the paper in half. Then, fold both sides of the plane to make the wings. You are finished!

Gold rush project entry 15

3/20/50
Hey journal! Clovers aren't worth anything now. I couldn't find 4-leaf clovers. However, I found some gold dust worth 20$. Today, someone shot a hole in my pan thinking it was his. I found his nearby and gave it to him. He payed me 10$ so I can pay for the damage he had done. After I fixed it, he taught me how to easily find gold in the dirt or in the river. I earned a lot more money then. I still have a chance to get rich!

Gold rush project entry 14

3/17/50
Hey journal! Today is St. Patrick's Day. I found about twenty 3-leaf clovers and sold them for 1$ each! I guess people really wanted to buy them. Now, I am trying to find 4-leaf clovers. They are worth 5$ each! I haven't found any yet. I hope I find many 4-leaf clovers.

Gold Rush project entry 13

1/25/50
Hey journal! Jack decided to go back to his home. It felt sad leaving him. Today, some outlaws were hanged. I looked at the picture closely. I realized that they were the ones who stole our money! I felt relieved. Now I can get my money back!

Gold Rush project entry 12

1/1/50
Hey journal! Even though our money was stolen, I am still having a good time celebrating New Year's Eve. Some people gave us some gold dust. We got 20$ worth of gold today. Every person shouted "Happy New Years!" over and over again. It is getting late now. Bye!

Gold Rush project entry 11

12/28/49

Hello journal! We earned another 200$! This is enough to pay the trip to go back! Now, I need one more year till I get richer. But a day ago, road agents stole our tools and burned our stand. Our money was stolen by those outlaws too! I hope I'll catch them one day.

Gold rush project update

3/11/15

Hello Mrs. Pritchett! I am doing a journal. I have done 10 entries so far. I have written about Jack and I. Jack is a "friend" I met on the way to California. I am writing about what happened to us. We have gone to California, bought tools, mined, gotten robbed, and we have opened a barber shop. I am planning to do 5 to 10 more entries. This is how far I have gotten into this project.

Gold Rush project entry 10

11/29/49

Hey journal! Things are going good so far. Jack and I have 200$ worth of gold right now. The sad part is that we are losing our money. Some people took 20$ from us yesterday. We are started a barber shop next to the camps. We bought our cutting tools from some of the miners. We haven't had a customer so far. I hope Jack and I make money from this.

Gold rush project entry 9

8/26/49
Hi journal. We couldn't find anymore fruits or vegetables to make food. We ran out of business. We had enough money to go back to mining. We used hydraulic mining and got 43$ worth of gold. We almost hit 2 people and other people almost hit us. We were lucky to be alive. We got our tents and took another claim. I hope we don't get robbed again.

Gold rush project entry 8

8/5/49

Hi journal. Someone stole our money and tools. We are trying to use our hands to dig. We couldn't find anything. I had lost hope until Jack found a job for both of us! We were saved. Our job was to make food. We earned 30$ a day! Now, we both have 120$ I wonder what will happen after the miners are gone.

Gold rush project entry 7

7/30/49

Hey journal! I have gotten lucky today. I found gold worth 28$! Jack found 15$ worth of gold. Jack and I have gotten a profit of 21$ since we started. We have made a claim and 4 tents. Two of them are for sleeping in. The other one is for eating. The last one is for keeping our gold safe. Now, we are panning for gold. I hope I am able to get back to my family soon.

Gold rush project entry 6

7/27/49
Hi journal. I am doing another day of working in the gold fields. I have little money right now. Jack and I pan through the river and dig in the coyote hole. Our claim is not very big. Jack decided to get some food. He went into the forest and caught a rabbit. We cooked it and ate it. It was delicious! It is getting late now. Bye!

Gold Rush Project entry 5

7/26/49

Hey journal! We finally reached California. Jack and I both rushed to get our tools to get gold. We bought our tools from this tall man named Samuel Brannan. Now, we are panning through the American River. I had no luck, but Jack found some gold dust. I hope I find gold before a year passes!

Gold rush project entry 4

5/10/49

What's up? We are almost around South America. Jack and I still have a lot of food. Many storms have come and gone. It is very boring on the ship. So, Jack and I played games such as charades and scramble. This helped pass the time. I will get to California!

Gold rush project entry 3

4/10/49

Hey journal! After the long journey filled with treacherous cold storms, I can see civilization. As the ship approached the island it felt warmer. When we entered the island, people were kind and generous. Many interesting people were joining the gold rush. One person was just like me. He was polite. He was going to California like I was. We became friends. We brought a lot of food for the rest of the journey to California. Here I come California!

Gold rush project entry 2

3/29/49

Hello journal. It has been 20 days since I left California. We aren't even close to California yet. Food and water are being rationed. I get only 1 cup of water and a slice of bread every day! Rats are spreading diseases. People are dying. People are stealing other people's money. Life on the ship is very miserable. I hope I survive the whole way!

Gold rush project entry 1

3/9/49

Hello journal! Hamburg is nice, but I'm not earning much money. I have heard about the gold rush going on in California. People are getting rich. So I have decided to go there too. From Hamburg, there are two ways to travel. You can go entirely by sea or, a portion on land and a portion on sea. I chose to go entirely by sea. I am buying my ticket right now. I hope I am successful in this journey.

Narrative writing of rattlesnakes

A few minutes ago, I saw a dazzling rattlesnake. It was slithering across the dry sand. It's tongue came in and out. It seems as if it was looking for food. Just then, I saw a mouse run across the sand. The snake sprang into the air and caught the mouse. Then, it swallowed it whole. People think that snakes are disgusting. They might think that snakes were going to get them. Although they are dangerous, if you don't mess with them they are actually harmless. Now, the snake slithered into its hole.

My bedroom

Intro
My bedroom is best place in the house All my senses are at peace there.

Body

Touch
My bedroom is very clean. If you enter my room, you would feel the smoothness of the pearly floor.

Hear
My bedroom is in the 2nd floor so you could hear the silence of my room. You could hear only your footsteps as you enter the room.

Smell
My mother installed air fresheners. As you enter my room, you could smell the odor of lemons.

Vision
My mom and I clean up the messes I make. As you enter the room, you can see how clean and shiny the room is. We have an amazing view of the sunset from my room.

Conclusion
All in all, this is how my bedroom is. It would be as clean as a pearl. It would be very quiet. It would smell like lemons. Finally, it would be very smooth.

imaginary character

If I made an imaginary character, he would be called fire-man. He likes to eat junk. He is 5 feet tall and he is 15 years old. He can create fire whenever he wants to. Every day he burns useless things. He is curious and mischievous. He likes to burn people's things like beds. He does not fight evil people. Whenever he gets angry, he goes crazy and burns everything in his sight. This is what imaginary character I would make.

Speech outline

My Mother and Father

Intro

Although my mother and my father are very different, they complement each other. They formed a relation to raise a wonderful family.

Body

My father and mother are different. My father is a big picture person. My father plans trips at the best time within our budget. My mother is very detail oriented . She plans and executed every detail related to the trip.

If my mother and father were were detail oriented. We would never be able to plan for leaserly trips when we are are free.  If my mother and father were both big picture people, we won't be able to plan all details necessary to feed, cloth, shelter us during the trip. Trips would be hectic and unenjoyable.

It is because of my father's planning, We have this big house with lots of toys. It is because of my mother's detail oriented attitude, the house is clean, adults and children are well fed, clothed and taken care of.

 Conclusion

All in all, my mother and father are very different.   It is their differences that allows us to be prosperous and fun filled family.  I am glad that they are different.
