- The Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations started at around 3100 BC, which is over 5000 years ago. The Egyptians were the ones who built the pyramids. The first pyramid ever built was made around 4,700 years ago. This pyramid was called Djoser. The Egyptians are still around today. The Mesopotamians built the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were finished around 1500 years ago. This is one of the 7 wonders of the world today.
